The Greene County Cosmos is a non-profit community based competitive youth soccer program that aims to develop the overall fitness and character of boys and girls throughout Greene County and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to develop individual soccer skills and promote teamwork at a competitive level of play in a positive, encouraging environment. The program is committed to offering a high quality personalized experience that is affordable and accommodating to family life and other activities. Teams for this program play in the Miami Valley Youth Soccer league. Our staff is all-volunteer, working long hours for the love of the game and development of area youth.
What makes the Cosmos special:
· Enhance individual ball skills: The making of a great soccer player begins with a solid foundation of individual ball skills. Our coaches work with each player to develop a good “first touch” on the ball, strong precise passes, and off ball movement.
· Teach good sportsmanship and integrity of players: By keeping the focus off a “win at all cost,” our coaches are able to promote strong comradely between players and treat opposing teams with respect.
· Emphasis on team performance: Our club philosophy of developing players over several years, keeping Cosmos teams intact, removes the individual competition within a team, leaving room to focus on team unity and performance. Our players stay together year after year, learning each other’s strengths and how to compensate for each other’s weaknesses. Players may remain part of the team as long as their commitment level is a positive one.
· Encouragement of other activities: The Cosmos encourages its players to participate in other sports and activities, as there are many lessons and skills to be learned in areas away from the soccer field. By keeping our training nights consistent, this allows players the ability to schedule other activities for times that do not conflict with the soccer schedule. We do ask that soccer be a higher priority during the spring and fall seasons, as it is important for team unity and performance.
· Predictable schedules to accommodate family life: Each team will participate in two training sessions per week lasting from 90 to 120 minutes and have eight league games each season. Training nights will be as consistent as possible throughout each session to keep schedules predictable.
· Play in fall and spring local tournaments: With many quality tournaments within a two hour radius, we work to keep costs down for our players by playing in these local tournaments as well as by keeping the number of tournaments per year to five.
· Develop lifetime love for soccer, sports, and fitness: Our club strives to provide an encouraging, positive environment for each and every player.
